NEW CONDUCTORS ORCHESTRA PRESENTS ‘ORCHESTRAL GEMS’

September 24, 2024 | Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church, New York, NY

New York, NY – The New Conductors Orchestra (NCO) is redefining the role of a community orchestra by opening doors for rising talent in the conducting world, giving young conductors an invaluable platform to shine. This Fall, the NCO will present Orchestral Gems, a thrilling performance of 20th and 21st-century masterpieces, on October 19 and 20 at Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church. Tickets are now available.

In a field that often prioritizes well-known and established names, NCO is committed to nurturing the next generation of musical leaders by providing them with the rare opportunity to lead a full orchestra, honing their skills in front of a live audience. These Fall concerts will be featuring emerging talents Georgia Markakis Mills and Luke Poeppel, alongside our Lead Conductor Mark Powell.

We will perform works by John Williams, Maurice Ravel, Frank Ticheli, and Paul Hindemith. Audiences will be treated to the following orchestral treasures:

  • John Williams' "Theme From 'Jurassic Park'", his iconic and majestic score from the popular film that is one of Williams' most beloved musical works.

  • Maurice Ravel's "Ma Mère L'Oye" ("Mother Goose Suite"), a masterpiece of French impressionism, comprising five enchanting movements depicting French fairy tales, with brilliant modal melodies, use of dance forms and rhythmic precision.

  • Paul Hindemith's Symphony in Eb, his towering and audacious symphony, believed by many to be one of the finest of the 20th century and a gem that is not heard enough.

  • Frank Ticheli's "Sanctuary", a rich array of images suggesting peace and joyful reverence, both reflective and reassuring.

“With the New Conductors Orchestra, we’ve created a space where emerging conductors and composers can develop their craft in a professional, supportive environment,” Dan Dicker, NCO’s President. “Orchestral Gems is a testament to the rich diversity of talent that exists in the music world today.”

As part of its mission to ”give back”, NCO will also be inviting senior citizens and school-aged children as guests, ensuring that more members of the community can experience these magnificent performances. For more information on this offer, representatives of senior citizen groups may contact NCO.

The chance to conduct a professional-level ensemble is crucial for emerging conductors, as it bridges the gap between formal academic training and the highly competitive world of professional orchestras. By offering these platforms, NCO helps young conductors develop their artistry, leadership, and confidence, ensuring that the future of classical music is vibrant and diverse.
